Types of rigidity

Types of rigidity

Lead pipe - uniform resistance present throughout the entire range of passive movement and is mostly seen in legs and trunk

Cogwheel - fluctuant resistance to passive movement due to presence of static tremor and is best seen in wrist joint

Types of tremors

1 According to posture -

A ) static tremor - at rest eg - parkinson dse

B ) kinetic tremor - appears in precise movements and disappears at rest eg - anxiety , thyrotoxicosis , salbutamol , chronic alcoholism

C ) intention tremor - appears at goal point of activity , absent at rest and beginning eg - cerebellar disease

D ) flapping tremor - in encephalopathies

2 According to amplitude

A ) fine

B ) coarse
