All are true about stapes except
1.Derivative of 2nd pharyngeal arch
2.Covers the oval window
3.Controlled by stapedius to protect middle ear
4.Damage to stapedius produced hyperacusis

The stapedius pulls out oval window from the fossa ovalis, if there is loud sound, and this protective move is called stapedial reflex. This prevents damage to the inner (& not middle) ear.
If stapedius is damaged, the patient suffers from hyperacusis, due to absence of stapedial reflex
