9 year Old girl contacted HIV from Transfusion, Govt ordered Probe

A 9-year-old girl who was transfused for Blood cancer at Regional cancer center (RCC) Thiruvananthapuram Kerala is diagnosed to have contacted HIV virus. On the complaint of Father of the girl, Health minister of Kerala Government KK Shylaja ordered a probe by setting up a panel headed by Joint director DME D Shrikumari. Government also ordered to bear all medical expenses of the girl.

The girl was referred to the Regional cancer center from Alappuzha medical college. Initial reports of the girl are from external laboratories. Noticing a swelling in her eye the RCC doctors ordered test battery including HIV and it comes to be positive. Under such circumstances, Government’s decision to bar High-risk individuals to donate blood appears to be a good initiative.
