You shouldn’t opt for medical career, doctors’ association to appeal to public after mob attacks hospital staffs

In another episode of what could be seen as a disturbing trend, a hospital was vandalized and its staff manhandled by a mob. This time, the hospital that was under attack was Dr.Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini,Delhi. The incident took place on Sunday night after the death of a patient in the hospital.

The patient, Parvez met with an accident and died of injuries in the hospital’s casualty department.

It didn’t take long after that for the patient’s attendants to start abusing the hospital staff and vandalizing the whole department. There were around 30 to 40 of them. They even did their handiwork on the emergency room and an operation theater.

A hospital staff said to the newspaper, The Hindu that during the mob’s attack, all on-duty staff including the security guards had to take cover. An FIR was registered. However, that hasn’t really appeased the hospital doctors who think it wrong that medical staff in the nation’s capital of all places were victims of assault at workplace. This, despite the numerous initiatives taken by the State Health Department to prevent such unhappy happenings.

In response to the latest attack on medical staff, the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association(FORDA) said that they would begin a campaign to appeal to the public that they should not opt for a career in medicine. Dr.Pankaj Solanki, the president of FORDA raises the question of how doctors could be held responsible for each and every death. He said that the association will ask the Health Minister to shut down all hospitals after 4 p.m as “the environment is becoming scary,” adding that it seems only God could help them now.
