What to do after Mbbs in India ,go for DNB or MD/MS which is best
DNB stands for Diplomate of National Board.
For getting admission in DNB course, you need to pass DNB-CET
After clearing CET, you have to apply to the college/hospital enlisted in the Information bulletin (can be downloaded from NBE website)
- I have done a clerkship in a DNB hospital, Doctors and Residents told me, it’s more or less similar to the MD/MS course, except for the final exam, where exams are taken “Zone wise”, which is different from MD/MS where it is done under university, makes passing DNB final exam difficult than MD/MS.
- Medical qualifications awarded by NBE are recognized qualifications included in the First Schedule to IMC Act, 1956 and are considered at par with MD/MS,DM/M.Ch qualifications of other universities.

MD/MS vs DNB
“I asked a similar answer from a 2nd year DNB student & I got an answer something like this”
People die for MD/MS seats since they are more popular than DNB among people, DNB was launched few years back while MD/MS is running from centuries (? Or Millennium) and not to forget that these people around us get sick and look for a specialized Doctor and when he has a choice to make among 2 Doctor;
One is MD, General Medicine (Delhi) and other is DNB, General Medicine (India) - obviously his choice of Doctor would be one whose degree he is familiar with. [Yes, the degree will not contain the name of the city from where you have done DNB; unlike MD/MS instead it will be DNB (India)]
-Frankly speaking doctors I have encountered doing DNB, they passed DNB-CET long back, but since they could not get any MD/MS seat joined DNB (Validity is for 2 Years)
-“The Exit Exam or Final Exam” is tougher than MD/MS, makes people think twice (may be twenty times) before joining DNB course.
-But, as far as I know DNB has high reputation among Private set-up, if somebody dreaming to work in a 5 star hospital someday - DNB not at all a bad option!
-Also there are many prestigious hospitals/colleges in the DNB list, if you can get any of those hospitals, not a bad deal for scarifying a MD seat.
